In incident communications, the person in charge of the overall incident plan designates which radio talk group will be used for the Rapid Intervention Team. This ensures RIT messages have a clear, dedicated channel separate from the main operations, reducing clutter and miscommunication as the incident progresses. The RIT OIC leads the team on scene, but the authority to assign the talk group sits with the Incident Commander as part of the communications plan. Other roles, like the RIT group OIC or TRT, focus on their own operations and do not assign the designated talk group.
